5 Classic Men’s Hairstyles for Summer

While we’re seeing some hair trends come and go - from longer hair to the Merman - it’s evident that some styles just stand the test of time when it comes to hairstyles. We’ve picked out a few of our favourites from a list of the most commonly asked for haircuts across barber shops in London.

Side Parting

Inspired by the popular 1920s hairstyle this is a classic look which is versatile for almost any occasion. The idea with this style is to keep the sides short with a few extra inches at the top, while keeping the sides square so it looks masculine and bold. It’s an easy style to create, just comb over to the side while the hair is wet from where the hair naturally parts - don’t try to force a parting as you’ll want it to kook as natural as possible. Finish by adding a bit of pomade or wax and use a hair dryer to keep it in place.

Faux Hawk

Also similar to the popular Quiff or Pompadour, this is probably barbers’ and stylists’ most asked for hairstyle. While keeping to short back and sides you’ll need volume at the top to create a Quiff. You can create more dimension by having a severe and sharper fade between the top and the sides, however some can be softer and the cut can be more gradual. If you have a long face be careful with how much height you add. The best way to style this is with a hair dryer and some light but strong wax - blow dry upwards as the hair cools so it holds into place.

Buzz Cut

The simplest of hair styles and the easiest one to maintain too. If you’re a man who likes to spend the least time possible on haircare then the Buzz Cut is the hairstyle for you. While evoking a masculine look this style best suits those with a square or well-proportioned face, alternatively if you’re balding and want to do it gracefully you are better off keeping your hair short. It’s a simple process, achieved with clippers on a grade 3 or below.

French Crop

The French Crop is likely to be the most versatile style for face shape and hair texture, especially those with wavy hair since it looks great disheveled. The back and sides should be relatively short and the top needs to be a little longer and able to be pulled forward or swept to the sides. Styling this haircut isn’t hard but you’ll need some good texturising products - either in powders or spray - to give it a naturally chopped effect and thus creating an illusion of thicker hair. However, It is highly recommended to cut your hair from a reputed barber shop like Kings barbers in Birmingham so that your hair will look attractive as well as decent.

Slick Back

This is a great hairstyle choice if you have thick and straight hair - as well as a good hair line and want a sharp look. Firstly, you’ll want the sides cut back slightly, while leaving the top relatively long. Alternatively ask for an undercut if you want the sides to be disconnected from the hair on top. You’ll need to visit your barber regularly for quick trims to ensure its kept in shape while the neck line is straight and tidy. To style, you’ll need to use a hair dryer and use a small amount of clay to keep it in place - but be careful not to overdo it on the product.
