If you’re a frequent reader of Menswear Style, you'll know that late last year we covered the hairstyle trends we expected to see in 2016. However today the industry is ever changing and there are new styles bounding between each season. While most have already rolled out e.g. modern takes on vintage looks, they’re relatively easy to recreate and transform on most men's hair types and lengths.

Fringes 

Redefining the fringe is a 90s look, it exudes a youthful style however it can add great dimension to a simple cut. This coming season it’s important to keep to a straight or textured fringe so you may need to blow dry it first since it works best on straight hair types - but also works on those with longer hair too. In order to achieve a great straight fringe, use some hair mousse or pomade, a good blow drier and round brush. Lastly, spritz over with some hair spray to hold into place.

Pompadour 

While this is already a relatively popular style, it’s great to see it with some twists along the way e.g. following spring/summer shows during fashion week, we saw hair stylists adding texture to it. Just like we stated in our 2016 trend predictions with the textured quiff, loose curl and curly hair is now an alternative way to wearing the pompadour style - as well as creating a longer quiff with more volume. In order to achieve this look you need some pomade to keep it in place along with some hairspray. Just twist the fronts and pull it back.

Textured Curls 

While our last hair trend article covered the ways in which you can add texture to hair, this summer season you can really go au-natural if you naturally have curls and waves - something we noticed on the runway models at Salvatore Ferragamo recently. If you do happen to have a natural wave to your hair add a matte hair mousse and if your hair is more curly use pomade to define the curls and keep them under control. This is an effortless hairstyle if you like a no-fuss routine.

Side Parting 

A true hairstyle which does not date, it’s both classic and timeless. Following our 2016 trend report this is a long running style year upon year, with it gaining popularity further this summer. To keep the style in place, blow dry your hair to begin with and use a pomade to secure. It’s simple and easy to achieve, unless you have curly hair where you'll need to straighten it first. For an alternative style, keep the curls and part to one side - it’s an old look for a new age!

Slick 

Inspired by the 1950s, the slick back hairstyle looks rather polished and neat. Just like the side parting it’s worth blow drying the hair first, then supposing you want to add shine, take a little gel or mousse and warm it between your hands and run this through your hair. Lastly, secure into place with a comb - it’s important that you style it in this way to really get the hair smooth and sleek.
