As another summer season rolls in, it’s time to examine your key summer 2016 looks. Whether you’re keeping things classic this year or if you fancy experimenting with some of the latest catwalk additions, we’ve scoured the runways to bring you the styles you’re most likely going to be seeing over the next few months. From the top designers to high street, it really is an eclectic mix and we can’t wait to see how these trends are styled by our favourite street style icons this year.

Bomber jackets 

There’s no doubt about it, the bomber jacket is the must have item in your wardrobe this season. Known for its versatility, the classic '50s bomber is ideal for casual days out and makes layering a breeze. Opt for darker colours to ensure you can throw your jacket on over anything, or if you’re feeling fancy, opt for a bright colour such as the lilac bomber showcased by Versace for this season.

All white 

White has always been a popular colour for the summer months, however this year it is really getting a lot of attention. Forget the attachment to '80s music videos - white is back to its classy best and should be paired with bright statement colours to really make it pop. 

1950s shirts 

Along with the bomber jacket, another '50s classic making a comeback is the Cuban collar shirt. This lightweight retro shirt may look like it’s meant for the cast of The Sopranos, however the style is back with a vengeance and has popped up on runways around the world, including Louis Vuitton. Pair with dark chinos and plenty of attitude.

Go green 

One of the key 2016 shades is green, as showcased on the Burberry and Hermes catwalks this year. There’s no ‘right’ shade of green - the whole spectrum has cemented itself at the top of the style stakes, so feel free to experiment with everything from emerald to olive. Don’t forget to mix and match your shades for the ultimate ‘green with envy’ style statement. 

Clash of the patterns 

Although you hear this every year, now is this time to get bold with your patterns. Clashing patterns may seem like the ultimate fashion no-no, however if done correctly you can create a truly unique look that will turn heads. Go for a matching pattern on the top and bottom, or chose two complimenting styles. As long as accessories are kept to a minimum, you can easily pull this trend off.

Distressed jeans 

Put down the bedazzler, we’re not revisiting the early '90s with this trend. Instead we’re looking at more subtle forms of distressed denim that has been showcased all over the major fashion runways. Think stonewash denim with rips and frays. The key to nailing this look is to understand that less is more and keep other items of clothing within the block colour spectrum. 

Backpacks are back 

One surprising trend that has taken the street style hordes by storm is the return of the backpack. Forget the sleek leather satchels - we’re going back to school with simple, clean cut design. Workwear 

Championed by many of the big fashion bloggers, workwear has become a trend in its own right. We’re not talking suits and formalwear - instead, the fashion conscious have been taking inspiration from the working man, with brands such as Dickies enjoying a resurgence of interest in work boots and overalls.

Anoraks 

Finally, an anorak may not be your first port of call for summer style, however this lightweight coat is proving to be a popular choice for the fashion elite. Handy if you’re caught in a rain shower, think cheap and cheerful see-through designs that you would normally pack in your festival kit.
