REISS PRESENTS ‘A MODERN MASCULINITY’
ICONIC 1950S INSPIRED DESIGNS AND INNOVATIVE PIECES FOR SPRING/SUMMER 2015
Written by Menswear Style in New Collections on the 2nd April 2015
Each season the Reiss design team not only concern themselves with the task of creating innovative pieces, but also with channelling the spirit of the most iconic designs of days gone by. This season, the decade which most clearly left its mark on the imaginations of their design team was the 1950s.
Inspired by the enduring cool of the decade’s style, A Modern Masculinity by Reiss revives the spirit of mid-century masculinity for the modern man.
The fashion shoot is a sartorial answer to the question that persists for the style conscious man during warmer weather; what is the best way to look smart under the sun? Mainly, they’ve been inspired by the luxurious approach to off-duty dressing championed by the decade’s biggest icons. They've explored the polo shirt while retaining its design DNA, offering a contemporary update which feels fresh yet familiar.
Full button plackets add a nostalgic twist, while modern grid checks bring the style bang up to date. Their favoured colour palette is one which heavily draws upon shades of cream, white, stone and barely-there blue. This is apparent from our styling of tailoring and refined yet relaxed outfits which displays a lighter approach to colour combinations.
Details which need to be inspected to be seen inject subtle interest to iconic pieces. A Harrington jacket with a check weave, a waffle weave jumper and tailored trousers woven with flecks are all highlights. The result is an offering which celebrates the very best of iconic, masculine style, updated for the modern man.
