Everyone gets that feeling of despair or becomes fearful when an interview has to be conducted. Whether it’s for an exciting new job or that big promotion you’ve been waiting for. But that’s not the only thing most of us have in common when it comes to an interview. 

One of the first big questions we think of is "What should I wear?" It is likely your friends and family will tell you how they’re getting slightly frustrated with the mindless repetition of the sentence "Does this look okay?" But you're right, job interview dresscode is very important!

So the question here really is do you look okay? The most common outfit worn by a man to an interview is a suit, which is most definitely the best option no matter if you’re interviewing for a prestigious job in the city or a coffee shop in your local high street. It shows that you value the importance and significance of the job and the interviewers time.

Now this doesn’t mean that going out and buying an ill-fitting suit is the right thing to do, as always you have to think about fit; the best option is a classic slim tailored 2 button suit with a slight break on your trousers. 

You’re best to opt for dark and understated colours and accessories such as a navy or charcoal suit, teamed with a white or pale blue shirt, paired with dark brown or black shoes, either Wingtips, Oxford's or Derby’s would be the most formal yet stylish and would fit in well with the whole look. 

But this also doesn’t mean you can’t express yourself, you can do so by experimenting with a unique sock colour or tie design. But don't go too far, try to keep it subtle.

The only time when it may be a good idea to break this classic staple for an interview is if you’re interviewing for a very artistic or creative position and you want to express yourself through what you’re wearing. 

Interviews are not difficult to get right when it comes to what to wear, your best off sticking to the classics described above to make a good first impression. However, the next priority is to concentrate on voicing your skills and personality traits to your future boss.
