LACOSTE NEW YORK FASHION WEEK 2014 SHOW
AN ILLUSTRATIVE LOOK AT THE LACOSTE'S NYFW SHOW AT THE LINCOLN CENTER
Written by Stefano Imbert in Events on the 14th February 2014
The first time a Lacoste polo appeared in my life I must have been 3 years old, and this particular article of clothing has remained a firm staple of my summer wardrobe ever since.
So it was with great anticipation that I attended their New York Fashion Week show at the Lincoln Center recently, and my expectations were well met.
Lacoste’s image and feel has shifted in the last few years for both male and female audiences. In addition to their polo’s of every possible shade of the rainbow and famous for their durability, Lacoste now has a solid and sophisticated sportswear line.
This new Fall/Winter 2014-15 collection from Lacoste Creative Director, Felipe Oliveira Baptista, has very simple and elegant lines with a colour palette that goes from warm Bordeaux to camel and beige to navy blue.
On the runway there were flowing raincoats with both ¾ and below the knee lengths, and soft light-coloured sweaters with rigorous geometric patterns.
Double-breasted woolen jackets paired with skinny pants of the same woolen fabric have a very sharp look accentuated by the choice of navy blue and gray tones.
Comfort and extreme functionality comes to mind while looking at this collection, probably because each piece presented on the runway was slightly oversized... quite a refreshing change after seeing for the last few years men and women succumb to the trend of undersized garments!
Interesting also was the sophisticated short promotional video created for the launch of this new collection. A young man is taking a leap of faith literally and psychologically (shot in dramatic monochromatic tones), and this is exactly what Lacoste is doing in its new approach to fashion.
