INTRODUCING MOSS AUTUMN/WINTER 2023
Written by Menswear Style in New Collections on the 22nd September 2023
Moss has a strong sense of heritage and a history of innovating to meet the changing needs of the menswear customer. With the new rebrand, everything is stripped back to show off the product in a simplified and modern way.
“Evolving and evaluating what the Moss brand stands for is essential. It serves the needs of our existing base, while at the same time enticing new customers who hadn’t considered us in the past. We have completely reimagined the product offering for the way our customers are living today. For AW23, the collection is stronger than ever and considerably more diverse.” - Brian Brick, CEO.
Taking cue from winters embraced in the great British outdoors, AW23 offers up a curation of colour, textures and considered pieces that will set you up for the season – and lay the foundation of a wardrobe you’ll be wearing a whole lot longer. The collection has a consistent look and feel, celebrating core product that is versatile, can be mixed and matched and encouraging a conscious approach to styling by prioritizing wearability and sustainability. Moss has embraced relaxed silhouettes, soft tailoring, bold colours and luxurious fabrics. This season introduces a new level of sophistication to casual dressing, providing elevated looks for everyday style. Rugged knits and scaled up outerwear take on the elements. A stand-out hero piece is the double-breasted boucle coat available in vibrant red.
COLOURS
Azure Breeze is a classic menswear palette of easy blue tones with a flash of acid green and olive, certain to turn heads. With cool blue tones and navy running throughout, this colour story could almost trick you into thinking it is refined and understated. Olive green serves as a partner to the acid shades, acting as the more reserved cousin, neutralising the palette. Olive is always a well-loved shade at Moss and this season sees the introduction of an olive green cord suit, a versatile and timeless piece. Indigo Luxe is a premium, tailored capsule comprised of carefully selected pieces with consideration of fabric, tone and texture at the forefront. A well-made blue denim with a textured finish on relaxed suiting. Vicuna is a nod to vicuna wool, with rich colour of deep tobacco tones. Crimson Sands features deep red, bold shades offset with neutral black and white and warmed with soft camel tones. This story is all about hero pieces such as the Red Boucle Coat and the Red Cord DB Suit. Slate Mocha features earthy tones galore like the wintery countryside and lifted by warm mulberry tones and shards of light grey. A focus on suiting with a variety of a fabrics and patterns there is a mulberry suit for everyone. Terra Shadow is tonal layering with a simple and neutral palette. Premium and half canvas suiting, cashmere knits, slick two-piece sets and oversized fits. The taupe and charcoal twin sets are champions of this versatility and tone on tone is used throughout.
“This season we have really pushed the boundaries with the new colour stories, featuring a bright deep red and an acid green. We have moved the range on with some incredibly strong stand out and luxurious pieces.” - Gabriella Brick, Head of Design.
FITS
Tailoring is at the core of everything Moss does, and this season the brand applies it to soften smart and elevate casual. As the casualwear offering increases and fashion moves away from slim fit to a new relaxed fit. Jackets and stand-alone trousers can be layered in premium winter fabrics such as corduroy, new blue denim, an updated houndstooth and a large grey pinstripe, as a nod to traditional British tailoring. A tailored twin set made from a dry high twist Japanese fabric has a straight boxy fit jacket and a straight silhouette with a deep fully elasticated waist and a cropped leg length designed to sit above the hip. An olive corduroy DB jacket is teamed with a blue denim shirt, and signature jersey t-shirts have been updated in a boxier aesthetic. A subtle army green Barberis double breasted, the first DB created with fabric from the iconic mill. An unexpected but welcome evolution from one of the brand’s most successful ranges. The Trouser offer has been re-established this season. Standalone formal trousers are great for mix and match suiting and are made with recycled polyester. A premium range that sits between slim and tailored, includes a light grey and charcoal flannel made from wool blend for a more sartorial look with a turn up and a brown and ecru moleskin. A flannel worker jogger is now crafted in a heavier cotton twill and a worker chino is elasticated at the side of the waist with a hidden popper opening and an internal drawcord with shiny metal tips for an elevated look. Transitional pieces such as overshirts with double pockets, a white wool peacock coat with a bigger lapel appear fresher, luxurious and sophisticated. Oxford shirts have been given a soft garment wash. A cashmere cable knit roll neck features in neutral shades, and classic merino-blend mock neck jumpers come in a wide array of classic colours.
TEXTURES
Textiles that have weathered centuries of British winters like wools, corduroys, tweeds and flannels are contrasted with the quiet luxury of Italian moleskin and cashmere, prime for hunkering down in. Premium Japanese and Italian fabrics run throughout the collection, collaborating with Ferla, a very premium and prestigious guest mill. Corduroy features heavily across the collection and can be found in different whales (thickness of the cord) across overshirts, trucker style jackets and suiting with softer shoulders for a softer, comfortable and drapier look and feel. Knitwear is elevated with the introduction of the 100% cashmere ribbed crew neck in a light grey and oatmeal and an alpaca blend chunky knit in an ecru half zip. ###ACCESSORIES Brushed wool oversized scarves feature in acid green, pale grey and black and white check. Wool beanie hats and polo neck sweaters are styled with coats and suits. There are twenty colourways in the sock range. Patterned ties in the most luxurious silk (from Italy’s Tessitura Bottinelli mill.) Quality leather travel accessories include a premium leather holdall, a backpack and embossed leather document cases. Ground that everyday look with polished Oxford and Derby dress shoes.
