Captured as a continuation of last season’s Time + Place storyline, the Right To Roam is a living, breathing campaign that pitched a new season of handmade footwear against the elements - an honest example of why D+D is made different. The Right to Roam is given to anyone who crosses the northern border into Scotland; a promise of freedom, to wander wherever your feet may take you. This winter, we took human instinct and removed all figurative boundaries, welcomed some of the brand’s closest friends, laced AW22’s footwear collection on-foot and hightailed it up to the picturesque Scottish Highlands for four days of hiking, exploring and open water swimming.

At the expedition’s heart was Dun Aluinn, Aberfeldy - an area boasting one of Scotland’s most picturesque Highland landscapes located just 45 minutes from Glasgow. The D+D family spent the evening in shearling-lined Sean slippers, kicking back before an early morning hike.

Local Rangers outlined a route to ensure that everyone caught the sunrise over Loch Katrine, the Trossarchs, Ben Lomond and Schiehallion in all of its glory, taking them on a journey lined with famed moments in domestic folk law. DUKE + DEXTER’s team of creatives captured the return of their collaborative D+D x Fracap hiking boot every step of the way, close friends of the brand Gully Guy Leo, Jude and triathlete Ed Barrow to name but a few, booted-up and trailing behind. After reaching Ben A’an’s peak in the wake of ultra-marathon runner Will Goodge and putting miles on a set of classic Range Rovers - a recycled, ultra-absorbent bamboo fibre lining was trialled on both Christie and Ritchie sneakers, not only opening doors for sustainability on a material level, but the longevity of purpose, design and function, too.

To finish the week, they had to tie the Right to Roam campaign off with an evening of swagger, D+D Pennies both old and new, and celebration - they required that special flair, a magic touch only Mob Kitchen’s Jordon Ezra King could provide. Suited and booted, the family broke out autumnal array of Wilde Penny Loafers, dripping in Italian suede and D+D embroidered vamps whilst sitting down for a three-course dinner cooked by Jordon - showcasing traditional Scottish recipes in the best way possible.

This was DUKE + DEXTER capturing the Right to Roam, an accurate account of the way their family would like to spend the cold winter months. No big production budget or false pretences, no handsome model pruning in front of a camera and some fake narratives of how they think their footwear should be perceived, just a passion for the people and world around them - moments in nature as they should be.
