THE ULTIMATE SWEATER WEATHER: OUR TOP PICKS THIS SEASON
Written by Orla Lavery in Essentials on the 14th December 2020
Tis’ the season to be jolly (and to ward off the impending winter chill)! Whether your Holiday plans entail country walks or staying cosied up inside with family and fires, these knitwear picks are sure to keep you looking stylish (and warm) this festive season! Here’s our edit of this season’s knitwear finery:
Finisterre Navy Striped Fisherman’s Roll Neck
The perfect nautical roll neck, this Finisterre knit is one of our top picks this season. Its casual yet put-together aesthetic and trans-seasonal style lends itself to ultimate wearability. Pair with jeans and Chelsea boots for a more classic look or take into spring/summer 2021 with a pair of Bermuda shorts, flip flops and a bit of sea air wouldn’t go amiss.
Retro Hero: Ahluwalia Patchwork Polo Knit
As one of Farfetch’s new generation designers, Ahluwalia has certainly caught our eye this season with its bold colours and wavey retro prints. We love this long sleeve patchwork polo knit with its striped collar detail and central wavey motif. This knit has the perfect amount of red for a seasonal nod, while the light fabric and retro style make it an easy transition piece from season to season.
Modern Kitsch: Camel Textured Knit JW Anderson
We love this JW Anderson camel crewneck with colourful accents of embroidery. Anderson’s distinctively experimental designs are balanced with an equally ‘lived-in’ aesthetic. This wool knit uses a tactile diamond stitch for a classical knitwear canvas, while the blue embroidered JW signature anchor adds a playful touch of colour and modernity to this winter classic.
SheepInc Moss Green Cardigan
For a year-on-year classic, we love this SheepInc moss green cardigan. For a bit of indoor normcore, we’d style with a simple white tee, dark denim or beige jeans and knit socks under Birkenstocks. This cardigan works equally well as a flash of colour under a warm winter coat or layered with another knit for a more relaxed look.
Clean Lines: APC’s Soft Cotton Sweater
This APC sweater in soft heather grey and navy typeface is the perfect sweater for minimalistic dressing in the cold winter weather. This sweater works perfectly under a simple mac or trench, with dark jeans and a pair of converses (the CDG x Converse collaboration was made for this look).
Intarsia Mohair Blend Sweater by AMI Paris
This black and grey mohair blend sweater, knitted in a graphic harlequin diamond pattern, is sure to be an eye-catcher this season. This bold knit, with a beautifully finished mohair texture is one of our top seasonal picks.
Séfr Mélange Baby Alpaca-Blend Sweater
Another beautifully textured sweater, Séfr’s Abi cable-knit in baby alpaca blend wool is a more subtle, but equally stand-out piece for this sweater season. Wear with beige bottoms for a subtle, monotoned look or contrast with a forest green chino for something a little more festive.
Two-Toned North Face Hoodie
This two-toned blue North Face sweater is one of our favourite layering pieces for this season. This hoodie works well as a splash of colour under any winter coat, adding an extra layer of warmth, or equally well indoors as the ideal WFH attire.
Kent & Curwen Striped Rugby Shirt
Kent & Curwen’s multicoloured cotton Veasley lions patch rugby shirt is perfect for a fun but stylised preppy look this sweater season. With its classic polo collar and long sleeves, the sporty, preppy aesthetic makes this an easy piece to pair with almost any bottoms and works well under a denim jacket for days when the chill isn’t quite so ferocious.
Dancing Kid: Celine Striped Wool Jacquard Socks
Not strictly a ‘sweater’ but certainly sweater weather attire, these Celine socks are the ultimate indulgent stocking filler and we couldn’t resist adding them to this edit. In muted brown and burnt orange stripes with ‘Dancing Kid’ print, these socks are the fun, warm and fuzzy accessories we all need in our arsenal this time of year.
