DISCOVER OCTOBER 2020’S COOLEST STUFF
THE MOST STYLISH PRODUCTS AND RELEASES THIS MONTH
Written by Craig Landale in Essentials on the 22nd October 2020
You should be well underway with your autumn and winter gear by now, guys. The evenings are getting dark super early, and don’t forget to put your clocks back this Sunday. But just in case you’re still eying up some more purchases for your new season collection, here’s some of the best drops I’ve seen hit my inbox. As usual, I’ve hunted down the coolest, such as a clothing line by Allbirds and clothing designed by the Museum of Modern Art. So, following on from my September roundup, I’ve compiled a list of my favourite products and releases for the month of October 2020 – enjoy.
Marvin Humes x Next
Next's third Marvin Humes Edit launches on the 27th October. The 11 looks from this Autumn/Winter Collection are Marvin’s favourites yet! For his third edit, Marvin includes statement outerwear pieces like the Borg lined flight jacket, as well as a classic Epsom and lined Parka. Alongside outerwear, the edit pulls in standout layering pieces like the diamond knit, colourblock crew, vertical striped polo and winter white roll neck which Marvin has “paired with a grey check trouser to avoid any East 17 comparisons!” Plus, there’s a fresh take on the pieces he loved most previously - keeping hold of the polo, this time with an autumnal twist. Not forgetting comfort, Marvin has also introduced a casual set, easily styled up or down for a variety of occasions. “I’ve gone super casual, layering it with a hoody and joggers but it’d look just as great styled with a polo and tailored trousers.”
Vans and MoMA Debut Second Installment
Following the September debut collaboration, Vans and The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) are proud to launch a second installment of footwear and apparel. The latest iteration takes inspiration from impactful works of art by artists Edvard Munch, Jackson Pollock, Lybov Popova and Faith Ringgold. A diverse selection of work by these artists has been thoughtfully translated onto classic footwear and apparel styles that will be available to shop worldwide on November 11th.
LANX launches Proper Clothing
Lancashire based footwear brand LANX have diversified from their usual "for the boardroom to the bar" footwear to delve into the world of clothing. They have teamed up with other UK manufacturers to create a range of quality sweatshirts and t-shirts. They have purposely kept the designs minimal, so they can be worn to work, down the pub, to the footy, or on a fishing trip to the Outer Hebrides. A very limited amount of stock was launched in early October, with no plans for them to restock again this year.
SANS MATIN Limited Edition Sneakers
SANS MATIN originated as an idea whilst backpacking across South America in 2015. After a slight complication involving a pair of trainers and a tumble-dryer, a new pair were needed. They were looking for a stylish, comfortable, and affordable trainer that suited varied environments – an office in London as much as a local bar in Medellin, Colombia. It didn't take long to realise that what they were looking for didn't exist, and with that, SANS MATIN was born. Over the last decade, the brand has seen an enormous cultural shift taking place in modern businesses and start-ups, which challenges traditional work-place norms; conventional working hours and, more significantly for them, stiff dress codes. Trainers signify this shift in culture and have now become the everyday footwear staple in nearly all environments - from nightclubs to offices. The brand name, SANS MATIN ('Without Morning'), embodies these ideologies and personifies the 'Work Hard, Play Hard' concept.
Allbirds Launches Apparel Collection
Californian lifestyle brand, Allbirds, have revealed their first-ever apparel collection. Known for challenging the footwear industry since their launch in 2016, Allbirds’ vision of evolved environmentalism has always been broader than just shoes, and the brand now sees an opportunity to play its part in helping to shape the future of fashion. The low-cost, low-quality mentality that has permeated the fashion industry for decades has had a detrimental effect on the environment, with outdated methods continuing to drive excessive carbon emissions, soil depletion and synthetic waste. With a north star to make better things in a better way, Allbirds believes that in the future, fashion can’t just look good - it must also do good.
The Dalmore Sherry Cask Select
Behold the 12-Year-Old Sherry Cask Select Highland Single Malt, the latest addition to The Dalmore’s award-winning Principal Collection and an elegant evolution of the distillery’s legendary house style. This new whisky is available exclusively at The Whisky Shop, in store and online, now. The new offering from the Highland Single Malt maker celebrates the inextricable affinity between The Dalmore and sherry. It is an exquisite union of the finest oak, and a unique blend of rare and aged sherry, born from an enduring passion to create exceptional single malts that honour the sanctity of the cask. To realise his vision, Master Distiller Richard Paterson selected three cask partners from Andalucia - Tevasa, Vasyma and Paez. Together they curated the perfect oak casks and created a bespoke sherry blend to season these casks in order to realise the exact flavour profile desired by Paterson.
