Taking Care of your Skin & Hair During Lockdown

Being in lockdown does not mean that you have to completely let your hair or skin go wild. In fact, if you’re working from home, presenting yourself well-groomed is important, especially if you’re talking with clients. With the current restrictions, it is difficult to have access to a hairdresser or barber, and if you’re not used to doing things yourself then you may be a little lost. So, we’ve put together some tips to help you navigate through this difficult time.

Your Hair

Having healthy hair demands a bit of TLC, there are few things you can do to make sure your hair stays in good health. Hair masks are a great way to nourish your hair, you can decide to make your own with ingredients such as honey, olive oil or even banana, or you can purchase one online. Avoiding any shampoo or conditioner with SLS or parabens is also a good idea if you want to avoid damaging your hair or scalp with chemicals. If your hair is getting out of control because you haven’t visited your barber for a few months, then you could decide to take the matter into your own hands… However, do make sure you that you own a good professional men’s hair clipper and ask for help if needed. Cutting your own hair can be quite difficult but there are a few things you can do to make it easier such as dampening your hair beforehand and using a dual mirror setup for your haircut.

Your Skin

The lockdown is the perfect opportunity to get into a good skin routine. First of all, make sure you know what your skin type is. It could be a combination, such as oily or dry. It’s important to know this because the products will differ according to your skin type. Cleaning your skin in the morning and before going to bed is a good habit to have because dirt will start to build up during the day and therefore block your pores and trap sebum. Moisturising is also an important step, especially if you have oily or dry skin. Don’t be fooled, having oily skin doesn’t mean you can’t apply moisturiser, on the contrary, your skin desperately needs to be hydrated in order to get rid of that excess oil.

Your Beard

If you are lucky enough to be able to grow a beard, it is essential to take care of it to avoid looking scruffy. Having good quality products is important such as a beard oil, beard balm and a beard brush or comb. Beard oil will help to soften the hair and moisturise the skin under your beard to reduce the itchiness. Brushing your beard is also good for exfoliating and getting rid of the dead skin. Beard balms are good to shape and moisturise your hair efficiently. If you don’t want to wait for your favourite barber to reopen then you can trim it yourself to maintain a nice shape. However, keep in mind that it’s no easy task and you may ruin the shape initially created by your barber.
