A MAN’S GUIDE TO SLOPE-SIDE DRESSING
Written by Orla Lavery in Get the Look on the 6th January 2020
We’re almost at peak season when it comes to the white stuff. Whether you’re a boarder, skier or seasoned après-ski expert planning to visit one of the best resorts on earth e.g. Whistler Blackcomb, Cortina D'Ampezzo or Val d'Isere, here we bring you our 2020 slope-side guide full of all the best mountain gear available, so you can - at the very least - look the part. Enjoy the slopes chaps!
1. Oakley Flight Deck Snow Goggles
Designed in reference to the visors of fighter pilot helmets, these goggles have been expertly engineered to maximise your field of vision on the slopes. Gliding down a slope never looked cooler than in these persimmon and matte black Oakley flight decks. In a mid-century oak hue, these goggles will have you navigating retro-hued powder like a pro.
2. Patagonia Brodeo Beanie in Drifter Grey
A slim-fitting ski helmet under-layer that doubles as ideal après-ski attire. The Brodeo Beanie in drifter grey is minimalistic mountain-wear at its finest – and not a bad price too.
3. The Moncler Taku in Blue
The Moncler Taku jacket has been designed with a technical membrane to allow for combined breathability and water repellence. In two-layer stretch polyester canvas, this azure blue high-performance jacket is the perfect marriage of aesthetic, technical design.
4. Arc’teryx’s Anthracite Ski Trousers
The clean silhouette on these Arc’teryx stinger pants combine durability and ergonomic design for a pair of ski trousers that are wind, snow and water-proof. With in-built articulation for knees and seat, they allow for comfortable, easy movement on the slopes.
5. Ice Breaker Midnight Navy / Surfer Thermal
A natural alternative to traditionally synthetic-based thermal wear, the Ice Breaker half-zip thermal in Midnight / Navy is comprised of 97% merino wool and 3% lycra for flexibility. The cut of the fabric uses zoned body mapping technology and merino mesh to make for the ultimate thermodynamic under-layer for long days on the slopes… the blue-on-blue combo is pretty cool too.
6. Patagonia Men's Down Gilet in Classic Navy
Add this Patagonia navy down gilet, with its 100% recycled outer layer and lining to your slope attire arsenal. Simple but effective; versatile on and off the slopes. Pair with a light knit or under-layer for warmer days on the mountain or extend your mountain get up to après-ski appropriate by swapping a heavy-duty jacket for this light-weight down.
7. The North Face Future Light Salopettes
These khaki-camo and weathered black print salopettes are the ultimate in mountain-wear cool. Think Yeezy meets lumberjack, these North Face numbers will have you asking “is camo cool again?” Pair with a simple black under-layer and above Patagonia beanie for an easy slope-to-night transition.
8. The North Face Chakal Jacket in Military Olive & Black
In military olive and TNF black, the North Face Chakal jacket is the subtler sister of the camo-salopettes. With body mapped insulation for breathability and trademarked DryVent technology, the perfectly cool Chakal will keep you at the perfect temperature all day on the mountain.
9. The Atomic Hawx Ultra 100 Ski Boots in Black / Anthracite
Part of Atomic’s ultra-lightweight range of ski boots, the Hawx Ultra 100s with memory fit allow for an agile, flexible run down any slope. With their simple black, anthracite and metallic design, it’s hard to beat these ski boots for form and function.
10. Stone Island Cable Knit Jumper
The ultimate in alpine aesthetica, this Stone Island sweater hits the sweet spot in post-slope style. Casual enough to throw on in place of a ski jacket or pair with jeans for an easy dinner switch. The soft, sandy-hued wool and the cleverly incorporated Stone Island emblem in the cable knit, what’s not to like about this wooly little number?
