MENSWEAR STYLE X CRAGHOPPERS ARCHIVE COLLECTION
Written by Menswear Style in New Collections on the 24th July 2019
Inspired by its heritage, Craghoppers recently launched their first archive collection for SS19 and MenswearStyle has teamed up with them to showcase some of the key threads. Looking back to its initial styles such as the Rannoch jacket in the 1960s and its Pakka smock from 2000, the new collection combines bright bursts of colour with classic designs, as well as the tried and tested reliable technologies that the brand is well known for. A perfect combination of new and old, this is a collection that will make 2019 feel like 1989 again.
In 1992, Craghoppers created a new breakthrough technology – and fittingly called it ‘the Breakthrough System’. This was the start of what would later transform into Craghoppers’ AquaDry waterproof system, which made a jacket both waterproof and breathable. Created by climbers, the Breakthrough System was put to the test on multiple expeditions over the years. It was tested in both Scottish and Norwegian winters and even the British Makalu 1992 expedition. Only after this rigorous testing were the products made available to buy in 1993.
With staple items such as the Batley Jacket, Ashfield fleece and Lowood T-Shirt the Archive Collection offers a perfect synergy of technical and on trend. Pulled straight from Craghoppers’ archives and combined with the technologies that defined British outdoor history, the collection offers a variation of colours and styles to suit all of your outdoor needs – including AquaDry, Insulating, Smart Dry and SolarShield technologies. What's more, the Archive Collection has a lifetime guarantee so rest assured the product will stand the test of time.
We put this new collection by Craghoppers to the test in the wild side of Ireland; Gweedore in North West Donegal. Here it mostly rains sideways due to the relentless wind coming in from the Atlantic Ocean. The area has miles upon miles of unspoilt breathtaking scenery, so it was a perfect backdrop for our photoshoot and the harsh elements certainly put the gear to the test too.
Our first look features the £90 Wilton Jacket in Dark Grape which is constructed with breathable AquaDry polyester with a WR finish, polyester cotton lining and polyester taffeta. Boasting 3 large pockets with a grown-on hood, this is a fantastic addition to any keen outdoor wardrobe and is versatile enough to look great on the commute or on the trail. This was teamed with the £50 black Nova trousers which are insect bite-proof and include UV-protective polyester-cotton with nine handy pockets and reinforced seat and knee. Simple and understated but a very handy companion.
For our next look we added a bit of warmth and choose the Ashfield jacket in navy and red priced at £60. It has neat features such as Interactive Insulation, Recycled Fleece and Adjustable hem cords so you can be sure of the perfect fit. We teamed this with the £20 Lowood T-Shirt constructed from a comfy cotton jersey in Soft Grey Marl.
