THE SECRET TO LOOKING GOOD GOES BEYOND GROOMING
Written by Menswear Style in Health & Fitness on the 5th June 2019
When we think of improving our personal appearance, we tend to automatically think of different grooming practices. We’ll consider a haircut, we’ll shave or neaten up any facial hair - we might even pluck a few strays from our brows and undertake a little manscaping. All of these things can make you appear more presentable. But it’s important to remember that there are different lifestyle factors that can impact how we look as well. These tend to go a little more than skin deep, but making changes to lead a healthier life can really help you to look your best. Here are just a few tips and tricks that can help you to reach your full potential!
Stay Hydrated
Let’s start with a simple measure - staying hydrated. It’s not difficult to drink eight glasses of water a day, but so many of us still fail to achieve this. Around 60% of your body is water and when you don’t keep these levels topped up, your skin, in particular, takes the brunt of it. Dehydration can cause flaking, dulling, and general tightness of the skin.
Quit Smoking
We’re all aware of the health issues that can come hand-in-hand with smoking. These should be more than enough to put you off this habit alone - after all, who’d want to risk increasing their chances of experiencing cancer, heart disease or other illnesses. But you should also bear in mind smoking impacts your appearance too. It can yellow your teeth, nails and fingertips, it can dull your skin, hair and eyes, and it can cause general discolouration. So, quit! Weaning yourself off nicotine can be difficult, as it is a highly addictive substance. But there are alternatives out there that can help you along the way. Consider visiting a vape shop and finding vape liquids that contain nicotine. Alternatively, you might want to try out nicotine gum or patches.
Exercise
If you want to stay in shape, you’re going to have to put the work in. The average adult should get 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise a week or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic exercise. Find a form of exercise that you actually enjoy - this will make achieving these goals a lot more reasonable. You can head to the gym, try out a team sport, or give independent exercise (like running around a local park or cycling to and from work) a go. If you’re unsure how to get started, contact a personal trainer. They’ll be able to come up with a regime that will help you to meet all of your fitness goals.
While your grooming routine is important, you will have to go beyond these more superficial measures to ensure you look good at all times! Hopefully, the above advice will help you to achieve this.
