The Best New Men’s Hairstyles for Autumn 2018

A trip to the barber is all you need to keep on top of those compliments about your ‘fresh lid’. From comb overs to quiffs and man buns to braids, the best haircuts for men are constantly changing. It’s time to say goodbye to the sun and sand and hello to a new, fresh hairstyle as the weather gets colder. You don’t have to do anything drastic, sometimes a little product goes a long way. Fresh off the fall runway, here is a heads up on the men’s hairstyles set to dominate this winter.

The Buzz Cut

The trend that started in 2016 is not going away quite yet. From celebrities such as Frank Ocean and Zayn Malik rocking the ‘number 1 all over’, the buzz cut was all over Paris Fall Fashion Week. With designers such as Rick Owens highlighting the ultra-cool, edgy hairstyle, the buzz-cut gives the bad-boy edge to any hairstyle. It works best on a square and round head and is possibly one of the easiest hairstyles to maintain - you won’t have to worry about getting your hair wet as autumn draws in. Truth be told, there is no better way to accentuate a ‘grade A’ jawline than with a shaved head. Go on, give GI Joe ago. Beware, however, don’t attempt to shave your own head - it will only end in disaster.

The Soft Parting

Tom Hardy and Ryan Gosling are just some of the A listers pulling off this delicate parting. An alternative to the quiff, this style is quick and easy allowing for an effortlessly cool look. The soft parting takes the edge of the usually preppy style, giving you that pin-up guise instantaneously. Seen on the Versace runway, the soft parting is the new alternative to short back and sides - giving an air of elegance to the swagger of the haircut. Ask the barber for a textured top with a side parting to avoid clumps of hair. Upkeep is essential with the soft parting, so make sure you brush out the top with a little clay to maintain this gentleman’s look. Simple and smart, this hairstyle is sure to get compliments at your winter parties.

Messy Textured Hair

Messy and textured hairstyles are a simple and easy way to look effortless. Unfortunately, messy in this instance does not mean just ‘roll out of bed’, but it is rather close. Texture and movement are vital, so ask your hairdresser to chop into your hair making it look ‘messed up’. This hairstyle is great if you are growing your hair, perfect for that in between stage of short hair and the man bun. Styled correctly, the messy textured look can add dimension to your hair - caution, however, styled badly and you could be at risk of being transported back to your emo youth! This style is great because you don’t need to style it the same way every day; you can play around with it. Tip: use a hair pomade to stop your hair falling into one clump. A little effort goes a long way with this hair style, you can get results that are very impressive. Channel your inner Robert Pattinson or 1990s Hugh Grant to give the impression you're laid-back and don’t have time to be worrying about your mop.

The Lusty Long Locks

Long hair has seen a huge comeback over the past few seasons, layered mid-length cuts are prime for running your hands through your hair as if you are in a rom-com whilst resist the temptation for a man bun. Seen on the runway by designers such as Maison Martin Margiela, long hair can be styled like a free flowing 70s surfer or sleeker and more refined as seen on David Beckham over the past year. Beware, to nail the ‘heart-throb Bob’ long look, regular upkeep is essential. It is important to show you're regularly maintain your luscious locks; it’s an idea to invest in a hair mask every 2-3 weeks to keep that low maintenance, relaxed and rugged look.
