As a woman who takes pride in her appearance, it's probably no surprise to you that I too like a man who knows how to take care of himself. This can be from the obvious, such as maintaining clean hair to the smaller details, such as keeping your hands and nails in good condition. However, following a busy few days attending fashion week and trade shows, a minor detail I noticed, was beard care. From giving the continental two-kiss greeting to fellow attendees, there is something unappealing about brushing cheeks with hard bristled, prickly facial hair. With this in mind I thought it was time for more men to make use of the great beard products out there. Here's a list of the best ones on the market today.

The Bearded Chap Original Blend Beard Oil  

Australia’s first ever beard oil; this product works for men with both fuller and more subtle beards. Blended with a combination of 11 base and essential oils to create a product that absorbs into the skin but doesn’t lie greasy or heavy whilst leaving your skin feeling supple and hydrated. This oil is also great if you suffer with irritated skin as it will stop the itching caused by facial hair, not only that but you’ll be left with a citrus and spicy scent too. Lastly, each bottle is handcrafted and bottled by a bearded man himself for added effect.

Portland General Store Ginger Beard Oil 

This ginger beard oil has been named by the brand as ‘cologne for the beard’. This product works to soften and tame your facial mane including those stray whiskers. The oil is made from entirely vegan and organic ingredients such as hemp seed oil, jojoba, manula oil and a number of absolutes and essentials. Hand crafted in Maine in the US you’ll be left with a supple beard with a spicy and warm aroma.

Proraso Beard Oil 

Another one of my favourites is this oil by Proraso, which will leave your skin feeling hydrated and brighter whilst absorbing into the skin for protection and calming any irritation. The great asset about this particular oil is it also prevents dandruff (yes you can get dandruff in your beard too!) With a delicate scent of cedar wood and Mediterranean citrus fruits, the key is to apply to your beard when it’s damp and gently massage it in.

Oral Oil 

Oral Oil prides itself on being made entirely of pure natural ingredients to hydrate the skin and beard whilst softening those rough hairs. This oil has a natural earthy fragrance combined from a mixture of essential and organic oils such argan, hemp seed and red raspberry seed oil to leave you with a healthy even glow. This product is the most effective when used both morning and night.

Yuli Mr Incredible 

If you’re more of a clean neck shaver, this is the product for you. If you want a smooth sharp shave, this will reduce any irritation to the skin and disinfect any cuts. Additionally it restores the balance of cell regeneration under the skin’s surface, so not only does this work on the outside, but it works deeper too. For a refreshing supple beard and face with a luxurious scent this won’t let you down.

Lucky Scruff Tea Tree 

Carefully curated, Lucky Scruff's beard oil is made from the finest oils on the market. It won't weigh your beard down or leaving it feeling oily, and it will help with manageability too. With a crisp and fresh scent, the bottle is also comprised of 100% recycled chipboard.

Mr Natty Face Forest Soap Beard Shampoo 

When it comes to beard care, men often wonder what is better to wash their beard with, soap or shampoo? You have both skin and hair so each won’t be ideal on their own, hence where this product comes in that can be used daily. Containing olive oil and Shea butter, it keeps the skin hydrated and smooth, whilst protecting it at the same time. It also features a hint of peppermint oil for a refreshing feel and ongoing scent.

Jack Black Beard Lube Conditioner 

This product is essentially a pre-shave oil, so if you like to keep your beard trimmed then this would be worth an investment. Combining together to act as a shaving cream as well as a skin treatment, it contains fatty acids which holds moisture in the skin and refreshes your face for an easier shave. With it’s see-through consistency this makes for a smoother glide to prevent nicks and cuts. Made from macadamia nut and jojoba oil the skin is protected with a natural barrier. Lastly, a top note of peppermint refreshes the skin.
