STEP INSIDE THE NEW COGGLES FLAGSHIP STORE
CELEBRATING ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN WITHIN A FORMER BANK FEATURING ARTWORK BY BEN TALLON
Written by Menswear Style in Stockists on the 8th February 2018
An impressive store which opened its doors on 2nd December; the 4000 sq. ft. Coggles store is located on the bustling London Road in Alderley Edge, Cheshire. An extension of Coggles.com, the store is a destination for customers; providing lifestyle brands that go beyond fashion alone. The interior space mirrors Coggles’ attention to detail, together with its celebration of architecture and design. Occupying a former bank, the building’s unique features have been creatively repurposed whilst pieces of its history and character have been preserved.
A mixture of wood, marble and raw concrete flooring runs throughout and together with the original parquet, highlight the premium brands merchandised around the store. At the front entrance, original marble tiles seamlessly blend into the traditional wooden flooring that runs through most of the store. All textures and surfaces were carefully restored to enhance and celebrate the structure’s authenticity; whilst two restored bank vaults are now home to both a shoe and sneaker display and an exclusive accessories area - all reflecting the premium nature of Coggles.
Featuring Tom Dixon lighting and a mixture of sleek and industrial design details, the Coggles store brings together old and new in a contemporary light. With the incorporation of Tom Dixon pieces, the space feels fresh and relevant and embodies the Coggles lifestyle it has carved out online. Sixteen black and gold-based free-standing rails are home to the sharp lines and tailoring of Isabel Marant, the deconstructed designs of Margiela and Neil Barrett’s perfect mix of traditional with cutting edge, together working in harmony with the structure. In addition, there are five ceiling hanging rails which occupy the length of the building, reflecting the retailer's organic and premium nature. The bricks and mortar store launches with a curated selection of luxury menswear, womenswear, homeware and beauty from brands including Alexander Wang, Christopher Kane, Acne Studios, Aesop, Tom Dixon and more, each piece handpicked by Coggles’ buyers.
Adding to the store’s unique appeal, Manchester based illustrator and author Ben Tallon, whose book ‘Champagne and Wax Crayons’ was named 5th in Creative Bloq’s ‘top 10 graphic design books of 2015’, has created a bespoke piece of artwork which is displayed on the store’s wall behind the cash desk, and follows his recent work on the Coggles online Christmas campaign imagery. Marisa Shutt, General Manager of Coggles said: “Launching the Coggles store reflects our ambition to be a global leader in retailing luxury brands. We chose this location in Alderley Edge for our flagship store due to its unique premises, which offer the perfect platform in which to showcase our global luxury brands and also because it’s one of the most prestigious destinations in the North West."
The store is absolutely an extension of the retailers online site and people can now come in and experience their brand across all touchpoints from their carefully selected fashion brands, both established and emerging, to homeware and beauty, all under one roof. “This is a really exciting time for the business and we very much look forward to meeting our customers.” The store will also be offering a VIP service for customers, with a private executive fitting room, as well as a door to door drop off service.
