When I began my research on this particular style topic I thought it best to cast my net as far and wide as I possibly could. Coincidentally, I discovered that some trends are, quite literally, despised by women everywhere. From London to Sydney, Seoul to Paris, when I asked friends (young and old) these unpopular trends repeatedly reared their ugly heads. So, from women everywhere; the trends you really should stop wearing.

1. Any Memorabilia From Your ‘Lads Holiday’ 

Undoubtedly the most popular unbearable trend was the ‘lads holiday’ memorabilia. While all kinds of items of this vein were disliked, the singlet was by far the worst culprit. Is it the off-putting slogans (‘suns out guns out,’ 'Pussay Patrol,' ‘Shagaluf 2013’… etc.), the ‘Ayia Napa’ or ‘Ibiza’ boldly printed in neon pink, or just the indelicate connotations of one of these singlets? Who knows? All we’re saying is don’t bring them home!

2. Socks and Sandals 

A trend trialled by many and conquered by few. Women (pretty much everywhere) think socks and sandals should only be tried at home. There are a few variations of this trend that make it slightly more difficult to navigate. While some women vehemently defend the socks and sliders combo, the view of socks and traditional style sandals was resoundingly unanimous. That is, we don’t like it. At all.

3. Buttoned Up Polo Shirts  

Another divisive trend that we agreed can only be carried off by a finite population of men. The worst offenders tuck their buttoned up polo shirts into their jeans. Please do not do this. Perhaps it can be worn subtly concealed under layers, or if you’re really serious about tennis or polo. But, other than this, we really don’t approve.

4. Casual Bow Ties 

A somewhat rare but deeply detested trend. Seeing a man wearing a coloured bow tie in the day is akin to seeing a bird inside the house: unnerving and you want nothing more than for it to leave. Unless you’re going to a formal event and you’ve paired the bow tie with a suitably styled jacket, there is a simple rule of thumb we think you should follow. If it looks like it’s day, put your bow tie away.

5. Low-hung Trousers  

A dying trend that should, hopefully, reach extinction this year. We don’t want to see your boxers – well, not as a fashion statement anyway. There’s something highly unsettling about seeing a grown man exposing his underwear willingly. Fortunately, this trend seems to be reserved to younger crowds but we think it needs to be wiped out nonetheless.
