5 STYLISH RAIN COATS TO GET YOU THROUGH SPRING
EVERY CLOUD HAS A SILVER LINING
Written by Paddy Maddison in Essentials on the 10th March 2017
Spring is officially here and that means several things. Firstly, we're one season closer to summer; secondly, it's not going to be quite as grey and depressing any more (touch wood) and last but not least, it's going to rain... a lot! That may sound like a bad thing and it kind of is, but every cloud has a silver lining and this one comes in the form of an excuse for buying a brand-new raincoat to see you through. There's plenty on offer out there so we've put together a list of our favourites, available to buy online right now.
Oliver Spencer Lawford Car Coat
For something versatile this spring, this absolute beauty from British brand Oliver Spencer is just the ticket. It’s fully lined and constructed from a cotton blend, which is perfect for the changeable weather. This style is smart enough to wear with tailoring, but will work equally nicely with indigo jeans and trainers. Endless versatility in the form of a truly handsome coat.
Available at Oliver Spencer, priced £345
Elka Sønderby Jacket
If you’re going to buy a rain coat you might as well do it properly and buy from a brand that knows its craft inside out. Danish rainwear maker Elka has been perfecting beautifully simple, infinitely stylish and endlessly functional rain coats for just shy of sixty years and guess what… they’ve gotten pretty damn good at it. The Sønderby jacket is an update on their classic style. It features a slimmer cut, slant pockets and a curved hem, reimagining an icon for the 21st century.
Available at END, priced £129
C.P. Company 3-Layer Trench Coat
Since 1975 C.P. Company has been crafting some of the finest Italian casualwear on the market and has gained a cult following in the process. This handsome raincoat is a contemporary take on a design classic. Constructed from only the finest materials, this trench coat features a removable quilted lining, a three-layer membrane and is completely waterproof.
Available at END, priced £495
Fjällräven Skogsö Jacket
Swedish outerwear expert Fjällräven has been kitting out those in the know for over fifty years. If you’re after something a little more casual this spring, then the Skogsö jacket could be just what you’re looking for. It’s a stylish cut and is constructed from the brand’s famous G1000 fabric, which can be waxed to enhance water-repellence. If the rain’s not an issue then a quick spin in the wash will rid the jacket of its waxy coating, allowing for increased breathability but can still be re-waxed as needed.
Available at Oi Polloi, priced £185
Aspesi Hooded Waterproof Blazer
Keep it smart this spring with this waterproof blazer from fine Italian outerwear specialist Aspesi. The brand is well known for its high-end jackets and this one is no different. Featuring clean lines, a slim cut, detachable hood and fully waterproof outer - this stylish blazer is the perfect addition to your transitional wardrobe and will never go out of style.
Available at Farfetch, priced £127
