ULTIMATE WINTER WORKOUT KIT LIST
THE MOST EFFECTIVE FITNESS CLOTHING FOR OUTSIDE ROUTINES
Written by Rakelle Maurici in Health & Fitness on the 7th December 2016
Some of us prefer to workout in a gym while others prefer to be in the fresh outdoors. When your fitness routine is outside you need to consider the best work out gear that can keep you warm along with what works best to soak up the sweat once you warm up. Here’s our fitness kit guide for outside routines this winter.
Jacket
As a regular who goes jogging outside within the fresh air, I know that you warm up quickly. However, you’ll want to wear something that’s going to keep the rain off you as well as something reflective especially at night. We recommend a windrunner full zip running jacket. They’re lightweight whilst offering durability when needed against bad weather. Many come with vents at the back to enhance breathability you can work out at ease.
Base Layer
This is usually something with sleeves that keeps you warmer whilst giving you freedom to move. Merino wool is a good option to go for as it will soak up any sweat whilst keeping in any heat. Look for lightweight long sleeved base layers in a selection of different colours, they're perfect for those dark evenings when running.
Gilet
If you want to keep your body extra warm but also have your arms free, then you’ll want a puffer gilet. They’re well insulated whilst giving your body space to breathe under the arms and on your chest. Be sure to opt for high quality which is made from down feathers.
Tights
Some men prefer to wear joggers because they have a looser fitting. However, running tights will keep you considerably warmer and offer the least obstruction to your movements. There are many options on the market such as thermal fabrics and compression fits which help the blood flow. You can always put on some running shorts over the top to keep some modesty too.
Running Scarf
Essential for protecting your neck and face, a running scarf will help with harsh wind chill when running outside. Many are made from fabrics which will keep away any sweat and will keep you dry. If you’ve ever run through hailstone, you’ll know how these are an essential.
Hat
It’s not necessarily true that we lose as much heat through our head as it’s believed but cold air on our heads can leave us with headaches and ear ache. Thermal beanie hats will trap in any heat and keep the wind out so you’ll feel comfortable for the duration of your workout.
Gloves
Our hands become really dry during the colder months particularly if you’re planning being outside for your fitness routine. Look for running gloves that are made from stretch fabric and are touch screen friendly so you can run and control your music at the same time.
Trainers
It’s time to put away those mesh summer-friendly trainers and purchase some sturdy enough for rough terrain and waterproof. Many winter running shoes will come with a secure and structured upper whilst featuring high cushioning and strong grip.
