HOW TO PULL OFF OFFICE-TO-PARTY STYLE
EFFORTLESSLY GO FROM WORKWEAR TO PARTYWEAR
Written by Menswear Style in Get the Look on the 30th November 2016
If your daily workwear is a formal suit, you’ll want to loosen it up for the festivities. This season, tonal looks are everywhere so try a navy suit paired with a shirt and tie in the same colour. It looks very refined without being too formal and the dark tone is perfect for winter. If the occasion calls for something more casual, swap the shirt and tie for a grandad shirt paired with the suit jacket or blazer to keep the smart element to your look.
Even the smallest point of difference can make a significant impact on your outfit. Change your tie before you leave the office - a coloured knit tie is less formal, adding texture and interest and freshening your look. If you don’t want to mess around with taking extra shoes to work, choose a pair of smart brogues or Chelsea boots, both of which have the versatility to look smart with your work suit and can be dressed down in the evening.
If your day-to-day look is more casual e.g. chinos, t-shirt, jumper and blazer, swap your t-shirt or jumper for a button-up shirt (which you can tuck in, depending on the style you’re after) and add a pocket square to your blazer - this will instantly elevate your look. A good blazer is very versatile, so will look great in the day and through into the evening. Choose one with some texture as it will give it a more casual feel and pair with wool or flannel trousers as they’re a great base from which to dress your outfit up or down.
If you’re taking an extra shirt into work, be careful how you fold it as you don’t want to wear a creased shirt to your Christmas party. Thread has some handy tips on how to pack clothes to minimise wrinkles here. As it’s winter, you’ll need a good piece of outerwear. Choose your smartest jacket – so, a peacoat or wool overcoat – as this is going to look better when you dress your outfit up. And finally, leave your rucksack at work and take only your essentials with you. Consider investing in a card holder so you only have to carry the cards you need.
