This week saw the announcement of a new limited edition partnership between TAG Heuer and leading luxury timepieces specialist The Watch Gallery. The Swiss watchmaker, famed for its unflinching approach to radical designs, demonstrates a passion for sports with a striking take on the classic Formula 1 timepiece developed exclusively for The Watch Gallery.

At first glance I got some hints of rugged authority, thanks in part to the brushed steel bracelet and the colour spacing between the sleek black dial and The Watch Gallery's signature sapphire blue aluminium bezel.

A further unconcealed examination allowed me to decipher the busy layers and draw the parallels between TAG Heuer's longstanding association with Motor Racing and their incessant pursuit of precision. The TAG Heuer Formula 1 TWG special edition features a 1/10th of a second chronograph, the running second counter at 3 o’clock, the hour chronograph counter at 6 o’clock, the minute chronograph counter at 9 o’clock and a tachymeter scale to the bezel.

I'm going to fail tremendously in resisting the urge to regurgitate a rather hackneyed cliche, but this 43mm Special Edition Quartz Chronograph is deeply stylised. It has a certain hypnotic quality and an undeniably masculine aesthetic.

Tag Heuer has always been a brand firmly entrenched in the hearts and minds of the people at The Watch Gallery. After all, this watch retailer was known amongst collectors as a world leading destination watch boutique, launched in 1985 by fine watch collector H.R.H Prince Ernst of Hanover. Among some of their curators is Kevynn Leslie who has been passionate about luxury watches since his first ever watch, a red dial TAG Heuer Aquaracer bought for his 21st birthday. His love for the mechanics of watchmaking started very early on, dismantling his Dad’s watches on the kitchen table.
