NEW YORK’S FINEST MENSWEAR STORES 2016
ROUNDING UP THE BEST SHOPS FROM THE BIG APPLE
Written by Paddy Maddison in Stockists on the 17th August 2016
Here at MenswearStyle we’re taking a look at some of the worlds biggest and most fashionable cities, bringing you a roundup of our favourite stores that you should be checking out when you make your visit (go read our Tokyo list if you haven't already). This time we’re taking you on a virtual tour of the big apple’s best menswear stores - rounding up the best that New York has to offer so that you needn’t waste any time on your next visit stateside.
Kith
Now operating out of locations in both Brooklyn and Manhattan, Kith’s appeal is also twofold – it’s the go-to spot to pick up the latest and most exclusive sneaker releases and it’s also the stockist of a fantastic in-house brand. Kith is the work of Ronnie Fieg, a big name in the New York footwear world who started off in the industry at just 12 years old. Since then he has gone on to become a prominent name in the sneaker business and his brand has gained global attention. If you consider yourself a sneakerhead then this is a good place to start.

Gentry
Formerly known as H.W Carter & Sons, Gentry are a well-recognised retail force within contemporary menswear, offering shoppers a tightly curated selection of some of the highest quality clothes, footwear and accessories around. Priding themselves on kitting out the more discerning gentlemen about town, Gentry have built up a loyal customer base within the city and should be at the top of your list whenever you find yourself in Brooklyn.

Nepenthes
This discreet little two-storey boutique is your one stop shop for hard to find labels. Nepenthes is renowned among New Yorkers for stocking clothes which aren’t available anywhere else in the city. Alongside the more obscure brands you can expect to find Japanese heavyweights like Engineered Garments and Needles. The walls are covered in artwork that changes on a regular basis so the store is unlikely to look the same any two times you visit.

NOAH
If you haven’t heard of New York based brand NOAH yet then catch up! NOAH is the creation of former Supreme creative director Brendon Babenzien. It’s notoriously difficult to get your hands on their clothes anywhere but here, so while you’re stateside we’d suggest you make the trip. The shop is only in its infancy, having just been established last year but given who is behind it it’s sure to be destined for big things. The clothes are great too and much more low key than Supreme – So if you want to be at the cutting edge of streetwear without looking like a 15 year old then Noah is the place for you.

Killion
High quality usually means high price tag, but the nice guys at Killion have made it their mission to put an end to that. Killion produce all their own clothes and sell them directly to the customer so that you don’t pay any hidden costs. The result? How about bomber jackets for £54; 14oz Japanese selvedge denim for £44; or a pair of tech fleece joggers for £36? Simplicity is the overarching concept here – no sales, no restocking of items and no supplying to retailers. It’s a bare bones operation that lets the clothes speak for themselves.
