4 Easy Ways To Give A Modest Outfit A Luxury Twist

One of the worst style mistakes men seem to make is holding the belief that dressing well equates to spending a ton of money on every single element of your outfit, and even worse than that, wearing big logos so that everyone knows how much you’ve spent.

Actually, the best way to do it is to make sure that you have one or two stand-out pieces in every outfit you wear. This way you can dress up an otherwise cheap outfit and inject a touch of luxury to your look, but only if you do it right. Luckily we’re on hand to give you a few pointers. Here are a few ways you can dress up a t-shirt and jeans combo to show that you’re in the know.

Get the shoes right

For a casual outfit, if you’re going to shell out on one item then make it your shoes. Everything else can be picked up cheap enough if you shop around, but - as many a woman will testify – often the first thing people will check out is your footwear. A pair of converse are always great but if you want to take it up to the next level then we’d suggest opting for the Comme Des Garcons PLAY; they’re still simple and understated but that splash of colour and heel stripe can take a basic fit from boring to brilliant.

Make sure your accessories are on point

You can keep your outfit as basic and relaxed as possible but still look slick if you style it up with the right accessories. Attention to detail makes all the difference so think about things like your belt, eyewear – and in the winter – your hat, scarf and gloves. With the right accessories you can make a pair of H&M joggers and a t-shirt look fit for dinner with the queen. When it comes to wallets and belts, try Thom Browne – his signature red, white and blue detailing never fails to inject a hint of class, and for winter accessories, go for a matching set of gloves, hat and scarf in a nice merino wool.

Make friends with your local tailor

FIT IS EVERYTHING – You can go down to any high-street retailer, buy an ill-fitting oxford shirt for £20, take it to your tailor and he’ll make it look like it came fresh from Saville Row. In our age of high-street culture and convenience, it’s easy to forget and just put up with a fit that’s not quite right because you like the material or pattern on a piece of clothing. Take 15 minutes extra to take it to a tailor and you’ll be so pleased with the results that you’ll find yourself going all the time.

Your watch can make or break your outfit

Aside from your footwear, if you’re going to fork out serious cash on one item then make it your watch. If you’re a fan of classic styles then have a look at Larsson & Jennings who have some beautiful leather-strapped options available for around three hundred to five hundred pounds; if you want to keep it ‘on trend’ then why not try a rose gold face? If you’re after a more rugged design then we’d recommend Shinola, who have some slightly more robust hand-crafted American styles on offer for anywhere up to eight hundred pounds.

Invest in a special fragrance

The power of good cologne should never be underestimated, after all, your scent is the second thing people will notice about you. If you really want to take it to the next level, then why not push the boat out and try a bespoke fragrance? Floris are a perfumery in London whose knowledge and craft dates back over 300 years. You can arrange an appointment in their store with a perfumer who will create a unique cologne for you based on what type of scents you like; once it’s been made it will then be added to their historic library in case you or future generations of your family want to order it again.
