5 Adventure Holiday Ideas for Men on a Budget

Let’s face it, blokes don’t like to plan. Whether it’s paying the bills, getting your gear ready for work the next day or simply preparing dinner before our better half gets back home from a day out shopping with the girls. Leave it to us and its certain we'll be sorting it out at the last minute - that also includes organising your next adventure holiday. So, we’ve prepared this list of top holiday destinations to help when you’re next scrambling around for a quick trip - which guarantees a good time whilst also keeping the costs down too.

Lagos, Algarve

Lagos, in the Portuguese Algarve, is just the place for an adventurous holiday for blokes. There are opportunities for all kinds of water-sports. One of the most exciting is sea kayaking, which allows you to explore the caves, admire the coastline and help yourself to a refreshing dose of that magnificent sea air. Diving in Lagos will reveal the beauty of the Algarve below the sea - you’ll see underwater caves, reefs, wrecks and marine life. However, if you prefer to stay adventurous but dry at the same time, why not test yourself against the terrain with a spot of mountain biking instead?

Lanzarote

This is a quintessential destination for lying around and soaking up the sun. Towns like Puerto del Carmen see to that with their fantastic beaches. Still, Lanzarote is not without its fair share of adventure to offer visitors. You’ll feel the Timanfaya National Park calling out to you to explore it. At the top of the Islote de Hilario volcano sits a restaurant that uses the heat of the volcano itself to grill the meat — a rare and interesting travel experience.

Corfu

You may fancy pitting your wits against nature with a hike on the famous Corfu Trail. It takes eight to ten days to complete the 137 mile trail from one end of the island to the other. You don’t have to cover the whole of the trail if you don’t want to, but then you’ll miss out on some of the lush scenery - including gorges and summits. If that kind of hike is going to be too demanding, you can always take a leisurely stroll around the Old Town of Corfu and see its two forts. The Néo Froúrio will give you the best views over the town.

Burgas

The region of Bourgas delights visitors with seaside towns such as Sunny Beach on the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria. If you visit Burgas early to mid-August, you’ll be where all the action is because this is when the Spirit of Burgas festival takes place. This festival is an alternative to some of Europe’s bigger festivals and takes place in the town’s main public park, the See Garden. During the festival you’ll see a range of music acts, including jazz and blues.

Majorca

Jet off to Majorca and grab yourself some sunshine, where you can soak up the sun on a beach or explore the great outdoors. This is another destination that bursts with adventure. Take a trip up to the mountainous and rocky north, where you have the dramatic cliffs of Cap de Formentor in the north east, which are 400 metres tall and jut out into the sea. Alternatively, head to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Serra de Tramuntana in the north west of the island. This mountain range has peaks of over 1,000 metres and the range runs for 90 kilometres.

These destinations offer adventure and relaxation. Best of all, you can book fairly cheap flights and hotel rooms to them all - leaving more money in your pocket for a few more beers.
