Carhartt WIP by RETROSUPERFUTURE SS16

For the fifth season in a row, RetroSuperFuture returns to design Carhartt WIP's eyewear collection. Founded by a group of visionary Italian creatives, Super by RetroSuperFuture was founded in Italy in 2007 by Daniel Beckerman and since its inception the brand has been on the vanguard of contemporary designer eyewear.

The new collection runs across menswear and womenswear, and it features two exclusively new silhouettes the Genesee and Seebaldt - both take inspiration from classic street and sportswear, respectively. Genesse and Seebaldt sounds like a Swedish buddy cop series from the 80s. Art Genesse is a ladies man with a thick handlebar muey and never waits for back up. Tomas Seebaldt also doesn’t wait for back up, has a destructive drinking habit and has no qualms about showing women the back of his hand. I digress. What RetroSuperFuture have achieved is a series of novel finishings for the lines established styles: Stokely, Jaycee and Brightmoor.

“I think the success of a business is never done by a single person but with the collaboration between talented people, and I have been so lucky to be surrounded by many, such as my brother Simon, from which I have learned so much, and the precious collaboration of Sean Beolchini, but also many other great people that believed in my ideas.” – Daniel Beckerman.

In this bloggers opinion the Stokelys have a Tom Cruise (Cocktail) look about them - and in no way is that a bad thing. The Genessee has more of a hardened appeal. The sort you’d expect the big boss to wear at the end of the level on some 80s beat-em-up arcade game. The Jaycee’s have a cool hipster vibe - more Shoreditch than Hampstead Heath. Still something not entirely trustworthy about the sort of guy that would be seen wearing them. He’s either about to get stoned, is stoned, or on the come down from being stoned. The Brightmoors, I like. Again, something oddly nostalgic about its aesthetic design. If you told me that Molly Ringwald wore these in The Breakfast Club I wouldn’t be the bit surprised.

Above all, a cracking collection with range to suit all demographics, not just the people in their late 30s who got all those previous references. A fusion of essential sunglasses in all-black acetate, with more playful colour combinations or high-tech finishings for its resilient ZEISS lenses. Carhartt WIP BY RetroSuperFuture S/S 2016 collection is available now at selected retailers and online (prices start from £133 - £141).
