DISCOVER APRIL 2016’S COOLEST STUFF
THE MOST STYLISH PRODUCTS AND RELEASES THIS MONTH
Written by Matthew Pike in Essentials on the 6th April 2016
April’s upon us, and here’s another set of this month’s hottest products. The problem with tailoring our lists down to a small selection of products is, we’re always coming across nicely designed product, that not only serve a purpose and would make fantastic gifts but also give us that “oh yeah!” reaction in our head. This month really isn’t short of those moments. Our selection will help you around the house, teach you a thing or two about gardening, improve you entertaining skills and start to get you geared up for Summer. Following on from our March round-up we’ve compiled a list of our favourite products and releases for the month of April.
Albam Alternate for MR PORTER
The serial style pushers of MR PORTER have joined forces with Albam Clothing to create an exclusive range of garments, inspired by a “hardy, foul-weather gardener”, and the pursuit of British outdoor pursuits. Alternate is a 21-piece collection packed with all the styles we’d expect to see from Albam’s catalogue, but with a few tweaks to build a more refined story. Heavily inspired by British artist and green fingered maestro, Derek Jarman, each item takes on characteristics of what you’d expect from an outdoor enthusiast. Earthy tones are seen across hardwearing outerwear, utility trousers, traditional fitting selvedge denim, chore waistcoats and half-zip work shirts.
adidas Very Spezial Primeknit
With more and more hype around sneaker releases these days it seems the big brands are constantly trying to outdo one another. And with that comes tons of releases per weeks, many slipping under the radar. One which we’re really keen on this month is the Very Spezial Primeknit by adidas. Coming off the back of the resurgence in popularity of the 1970s silhouette - with thanks to Gary Aspden and friends - the indoor classic gets a more technical, knitted upper, but keeps its authentic indoor gum outsole. The grey colourway has just dropped and expect to see a blue follow shortly.
Holdall & co. Leather Cable Tidies
One of the effects of modern technology and our constant urge for new stuff, is the amount of clutter that comes with it. Some of us have great organisational skills but others are left with the side of their desk looking like Spaghetti Junction. Guilty. Northampton’s Holdall & co. has just releases a couple of products to help ease that ever growing mess with two cable organisers. Cut from British bridal leather, the Cable Ties and Headphone Wraps both come in packs of three and will probably make for the smartest purchase this month.
RHA T20i Headphones
We’re yet to cover tech on our monthly round-ups so we thought we’d get stuck in, and move straight onto the T20i headphones by RHA. We’re really at the business end of music tech here, with RHA’s standout model from their impressive collection. The T20i is a high performance in-ear design, featuring injection moulded stainless steel casing, noise isolation technology and something called a DualCoil dynamic driver. What we like most about RHA’s products is the amount of detail they have put into making listening to music a tailored experience; each product coming with an array of silicone and memory foam ear tips. Take it from us, they sound awesome.
Outlaw Soaps California Trails Collection
We’re partial to the odd spot of wanderlust. It’s most likely due to being constantly reminded about which remote Icelandic cabin, or desert ranch we’re not actually at - that’s Instagram! As we're not always lucky enough to visit these places on a regular basis we may as well try to imagine it - and the olfactory senses can run whild with your imagination. You may need to work hard at those senses, but if the rumours are correct then Outlaw Soaps may fill that void. Inspired by California trail walks, camping in the mountains and a heavy dose of “supreme amazingness”.
Shinola + Crisloid Dominoes Set
If you claim to be a “man of the people”, you need to be able back it up. Jollification should always be on the cards and at any given minute you should be able to drop top quality cocktails, an endless supply of fancy snacks (but no small portions), a timeless playlist and some light entertainment. Monopoly and Cluedo are great but they take an age to complete - so what about the porch-side classic of dominoes? Crisloid has hooked up with Detroit’s Shinola to create a President-Approve 28-piece dominoes set, complete with a Horween leather-based presentation case. Feel free to play rough too, as each piece comes with their product guarantee.
