PROOF THAT CHRISTMAS JUMPERS CAN BE STYLISH
THE MAN'S STYLISH XMAS JUMPER GUIDE
Written by Rakelle Maurici in Tips & Advice on the 21st December 2015
Granted at some stage this festive season you’re bound to be asked to put on one of those novelty Christmas jumpers which feature 3D designs and tacky lights. Okay, for one day only it’s acceptable but what about the rest of the winter season, and after that? Some Christmas jumpers can be worn until Spring - the festive jumper can still look Christmassy and wintery with a pattern, but it’s important to keep it subtle. We have picked out our favourites for this season.
Only & Sons Shawl Collar Cardigan
As opposed to sticking to a sweater or jumper for your Christmas knitwear, you can try a cardigan with festive themed patterns. This one features a shawl collar and button fastening - and you can either wear it open or buttoned up. Wear it with an oxford shirt (to set off the open V chest) and chinos or simply with a plain white t-shirt and jeans.
The Kooples Fair Isle Print Wool Cardigan
Another of the cardigan choices is this by The Kooples with a Nordic feel and a slightly modern take of the traditional cardigan with a zip-up fastening and stand collar. Again, the colours are fairly muted which makes it easy to match with - allowing you to add colour to your outfit elsewhere. Made with pure wool featuring ribbed details for added texture and a fair-isle print, it will give your outfit a festive touch.
Barbour Caistown Fair Isle Wool Jumper
For British heritage and winter warmer clothes you can always count on Barbour. This quirky crew neck jumper has two colour choices of ‘Storm Grey’ or ‘Midnight Blue’ accompanied with a Fair Isle print and ripped trimming. As well as a modern and vibrant style it’s also pure wool, so as far as quality goes, it will be keeping you warm. Wear over a shirt or with dark wash jeans, a chunky belt and lace-up boots.
Next Navy Patterned Cable Crew
Ok so this has a more typical Christmas pattern, but why not? You can still get away with wearing this after Christmas too. This cable knit from Next, has winter detailing with ski print and Nordic pattern to get you in the festive spirit. If you’d rather not be spending a lot on something you may only wear once or twice a year then this may be a better option for your. Although it is not made from wool, it is 100% acrylic which means a little easier to put through the washing machine.
Thom Browne Knit Wool and Mohair Blend Sweater
For something on the luxury side, this crew neck jumper by Thom Browne is a mixture of wool and mohair knitted in Ireland - so this is something special to keep for Christmas day. With rabbit and snowflake jacquard and red white and navy patterns, it makes it playful and fun. You can keep the rest of the outfit low-key by wearing this knitwear piece over a white Oxford shirt and teamed with jeans with boots and a beanie.
Beams Plus Fair Isle Wool Blend Sweater
Made from a luxury wool blend, this jumper by Beams Plus in navy, red, yellow and grey adds warm tones to your outfit. Since it has brighter yellow tones it will compliment a dark pair of jeans and a light coloured jacket layered with a shirt or a simple t-shirt. The Fair Isle print makes for a seasonal pattern that is still versatile to wear post-Christmas.
