How to Wear the Camel Trend this Winter

Along with black, camel has long been considered a luxury colour for your wardrobe and is making a comeback this season. It's versatile enough to be worn for smarter occasions as well as casually at the weekend. It’s a warm colour perfect for the Autumn/Winter transition since the colour is softer than brown and not as cold as cream or beige.

For a smart look, we generally recommend sticking to one (or two at the most) garment piece of camel within a styled look at a time so it becomes the one focal point of your outfit.

Let's take a tailored look as your first option - the camel overcoat, either a Pea coat or Duffle can be good options for a smart way of layering over a suit or jeans. Use fashion show street style images as inspiration for a traditional look - this is where we see an array of camel outerwear worn over dark suits along with fedora hats and lace up Brogues. You can also dress down the camel overcoat with dark wash jeans, military boots and throw in a khaki beanie for added muted tones.

Alternatively, for crisp autumn days and winter office wear - a luxe look is a smart camel blazer. This can be worn with dark coloured wool trousers or dark wash jeans if perhaps it’s 'Dress Down Friday'. Then add a crew neck sweater and shirt combo underneath in a navy, maroon or khaki tone - or if you want to opt out of wearing a shirt, add a light coloured roll neck underneath instead. For added colourful details and texture throw in a patterned silk pocket square to finish.

For casual and weekend wear you can try multiple camel knitwear designs. A merino wool roll neck or cardigan is a great way to warm up those winter tones of blacks and greys. Match your knitwear with dark wash jeans or tonal chinos and desert or military boots for a comfortable casual look. Other casual camel options can include a versatile bomber which is easy to wear and can be worn with shirts, sweaters or just a t-shirt underneath. Or why not opt for sneakers in camel for an urban street look. But remember to keep the rest of the colours in your outfit fairly muted and tonal to contrast with the camel shade to keep it as the focal point of your look.

Lastly, if you feel you're not brave enough to wear any of these mentioned garments in camel, why not opt for accessorise in this colour such as a thick woollen scarf, a fedora or even a belt.
