PALOMAR PHILADELPHIA HOTEL REVIEW
A COOL AND STYLISH HOTEL LOCATED IN ONE OF THE CITY’S PREMIER RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOODS
Written by Menswear Style in Travel on the 13th May 2015
Kimpton’s Hotel Palomar Philadelphia is located at the corner of 17th and Sansom Streets in the heart of the Rittenhouse Square neighbourhood, and is a highly stylised, eco-friendly, upscale boutique hotel. The story of Hotel Palomar is “Art in Motion,” and embraces art in all of its many expressions, including visual, film, fashion, dance and architecture.
The hotel’s friendly and welcoming staff are committed to personalised customer care offering complimentary morning coffee, jogging maps, in room yoga mats, hotel bicycles and complimentary wifi.
This hotel is modern, fresh, creative, funky, fun and stylish. It was a refreshing change to find a hotel designed in this way on our US hotel tour. There's plenty of quirky design features from action men climbing down a wall to an Instagram cut-out board at reception. We particularly liked the hot chocolate station, the unusual yet unique elevators and the daily free wine tasting hour. We took advantage of the spiced bourbon hot toddies, especially since it was minus 13 in Philadelphia that day.
The Room
There are 15 different guestroom options available totaling 230 guestrooms, 36 suites, including one Presidential Suite and 19 King Spa rooms which artfully pamper guests in luxurious style while supporting a sustainable planet. Our room was a good size and equipped with music docking station, his and hers animal print gowns, Fred water and Co Bigelow beauty products. A very useful and innovative idea they've incorporated is simply offering the ability to order bathroom essentials such as nail clippers, deodorant and shavers etc. to the room.
Restaurant Square 1682
located adjacent to Hotel Palomar and named in honor of the year Pennsylvania’s founding father William Penn founded the city and laid out its green urban oasis of five modern park squares, is Philadelphia’s first LEED-certified green eatery and bar. At Square 1682, contemporary design, chic urban ecology and delectable dining meets bright, bold and creative takes on Modern American cuisine and cocktails. Executive Chef Caitlin Mateo helms the kitchen where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily.
The restaurant is more of a bar with a restaurant than a restaurant with a bar. That said, it had a good sports bar buzzing atmosphere and seemed to be fully booked which shows how popular it is. We would recommend opting for the small plates and eating tapas style if with friends. The portions are bigger than expected making it good value for money and a great sharing option. Favourites included the Kale salad, Calamari, Octopus and Hummus dip.
