Travel wardrobes can be tricky at the best of times, and who better than global e-commerce site MR PORTER and high street favourite, COS (i.e. the minimalist and fashion-forward older brother to H&M) to provide the ultimate cheat sheet to satisfy even the most discerning world traveller. This isn't just a capsule holiday wardrobe (although the pieces are clearly designed to be paired seamlessly) but a thoughtfully curated collection that showcases the best that each brand had to offer.

Entitled 'The Modern Traveller', the 23 piece capsule collection, featuring casual separates, accessories and shoes, was distinguished from other collections by its dedication to simplicity. Clean lines and deceptively simple cuts meant that each piece fits easily into an existing wardrobe and can be paired, layered and dressed up in an infinite number of ways.

The colour palette is similarly restrained and purposely limited to a range of blue hues, burgundy and grey, with a few woven prints for interest. Even with these added points, the overall effect remains unwaveringly subdued and neutral. Stand out items include a soft blue denim pullover, with zip detail, tailored burgundy shorts and, of course, a lightweight single breasted navy suit. As mentioned, the pieces all work together flawlessly and are designed to be applied to a multitude of occasions.

The collaboration with COS marked something of a new beginning for MR PORTER, as the high street brand (not currently stocked on the Mr P website) was approached directly out of an appreciation for its ethos and resonance with key consumers. These two retailers definitely shared a common audience, so perhaps it was just a matter of time before they found themselves on the same page. 

When questioned about the future of the collection and potential to extend the partnership, Senior Buyer at MR PORTER, Sam Lobban commented: "What we've created here is a complete collection in concept and scope, borne out of the genuine alignment and ideals of like-minded brands. We like to think we hit out goals with this launch collection and who knows how else we might want to align in the future. We're quite thrilled with what we've accomplished here."

So, in other words, watch this space. It would be interesting to see these two come together again and perhaps explore a new direction, but until then, these pieces are sure to become an integral part of the summer wardrobe. The Modern Traveller collection launches on May 7th at MRPORTER.COM/COS and selected COS stores worldwide.
