5 BRANDS TO WATCH FROM JACKET REQUIRED 2015
FIVE BRANDS TO LOOK OUT FOR THIS SEASON
Written by Andree Latibeaudiere in Events on the 11th February 2015
MWS were fortunate enough to attend Jacket Required, the invitation-only menswear tradeshow, in the Old Truman Brewery deep in East London. To say that this event was a success would be a wild understatement, with brands from all over the world exhibiting their carefully selected pieces to buyers and press. We've collated our top five brands to look out for this season.
Waven - London-based contemporary denim brand Waven embodied a denim-lover's dream with a range of soft button-down shirts, bomber jackets and jeans in every shade from palest blue, to deepest indigo. Amongst the sea of denim, they also offered fine knits and raincoats to complement the casual pieces that are sure to easily become wardrobe staples.
Stighlorgan - Irish brand Stighlorgan continued their trend for highly modern backpacks, built with care and attention to detail. Designed with practicality in mind, these accessories are still sleek, utilising a combination of materials (both leather and canvas) to create hard-wearing, stylish carry-alls to suit a range of tastes.
Peter Werth - Heavily influenced by the working class of the 70s, Peter Werth presented an outstanding collection of knitwear heavily entrenched in nostalgia. For the brand's 40th anniversary, their Autumn/Winter collection featured striped polo shirts, checked button-down shirts and bomber jackets with contrasting collars that were easy to wear, with interesting details.
Gibson London - For the man looking for a more traditional suit with a twist, Gibson London presented updated pieces with unusual detail, such as quilted blazers and wool bomber jackets in a lightly speckled Donegal Tweed fabric. The brand also offered knitted pieces in mustard, burgundy and moss that would work brilliantly in both formal and casual settings.
Ontour - Founded in 2005, Netherlands brand Ontour has only just become available in the UK and will quickly establish itself as the affordable secret weapon for the contemporary man. Utilising unusual fabrics, such as neoprene, and subtle, yet effective details (the grey quilted jumper was a stand-out item), each piece was special enough to provide a focal point for an outfit without compromising its wearability.
