MOISTURIZING TIPS FOR MEN
A MAN'S GUIDE TO MOISTURIZING YOUR SKIN
Written by Menswear Style in Beauty on the 12th January 2015
Many people are not aware but our skin is the largest organ of the body. Even if that’s the case, it is mostly women who take special care of their skin. Too many men, on the other hand, would rather drink beer while watch the late night sports recap than take a few moments to moisturize their skin.
'For most men, they wouldn’t be concerned with their skin unless a medical issue presents itself'
Gentlemen, what you don’t realise is that taking your skin for granted will lead to sorts of problems later on in life including itchiness, pain and tightness.
If matters get worse, you could be looking at dry and flaky skin, a condition not very appealing to the ladies. Therefore, you sould show appreciation to your skin because it regulates your temperature, protects your body from nasty microorganisms and stores essential elements like vitamin D and water. You can take the first step by regularly moisturizing it.
Buy the Right Moisturizer
It’s tough when have you go to the skincare aisle with no clue what product to purchase. With a wide variety to choose from, it seems like the only strategy is to close your eyes and pick one at random. To spare you from making another bad decision, here are things you should look for in a moisturizer:
1. Look at the ingredients; if you see words such as glycerin, lanolin, petroleum, hyaluronic acid, ceramides and dimethicone, you are in the right direction.
2. If what you have in your hand provides a sun protection factor of 30, that’s a worthy candidate.
3. Lastly, if the moisturizer does not have added alcohol or perfume, then you’ve got a winner.
Apply Multiple Times a Day
Now that you have a moisturizer on your desk, make sure to use it at least three times a day. You must be shaking your head in protest right now because the number seems to be a bit too much, but it’s something you can handle. Apply every time you step out of the shower, and that means once in the morning and another one at night. Whenever you wash your face, you can apply the product on your hands and face.
See, that isn’t so hard. Before applying though, you need to towel dry your skin lightly until it is damp. That slightly wet condition works well with the product as it helps lock in your body’s natural moisture in addition to the water that’s still on the skin’s surface.
Time your Showers
Many men love showering because that’s their sacred sanctuary, a place where all questions are answered. Although allowing water to flow on your body for more than 15 minutes can give you enlightened moments, it can also contribute to dry skin. While you are in there, use warm water over hot water.
Ditch the Soap
Generally, soap available in the market comes with antibacterial ingredients. While these products remove dirt, they also contain chemicals that may cause irritation, dryness and flaking. When you do your grocery shopping next time, go for gels and creams with jojoba or olive oil to keep your skin moisturized.
