BARBOUR FOR LAND ROVER
A TRIED AND TESTED REVIEW OF THE NEW BARBOUR X LAND ROVER COLLECTION AT EASTNOR CASTLE
Written by Rakelle Maurici in New Collections on the 22nd July 2014
Menswear Style got a first hand experience with two quintessentially British icons, Barbour and Land Rover following the announcement behind their collaboration; ‘Barbour for Land Rover’.
Steve Buck, Managing Director, Barbour said “There is a strong synergy between Barbour and Land Rover – we are both established British brands with years of heritage, renowned for our understated style and synonymous with the British countryside.”
The key strengths behind the range for men and women has been built on capability, design, reliability and style which both brands boast individually.
Back in June we were invited down to Eastnor Castle along with other industry insiders from across the globe to experience the new Land Rover range and have a sneak preview of Barbour’s latest range.
Throughout the day we were treated like royalty, with activities such as Archery, Clay Pigeon Shooting and Ferret racing which ties in nicely to the inspiration of the brand’s tradition for the new range.
"Inspired by the British countryside, the range is designed for a modern savvy customer who demands the high standards of workmanship and finish from their clothing"
It matches contemporary tailored shapes with traditional Barbour rugged construction and a touch of country inspired luxury.
A lifestyle collection, the choice of jackets is complimented by quilts, gilets and a range of wax and wool knits, accessories and matching luggage. The women’s wax and quilts are flatteringly cut with smart leather trims and the knitwear is soft and luxurious.
Robin Colgan, Land Rover Global Brand Director, said “This partnership fits perfectly with the Land Rover brand; both marques are revered for their all-terrain and all-weather resilience allowing customers to go about their business whatever the conditions, without compromising on style and comfort.”
Having never experienced driving a Land Rover myself before it was a real honour to have the chance to test them around Eastnor’s grounds, who have been working with Land Rover since 1950, 2 years after they first opened.
The test track has bumps, water, muuddy terrain and the biggest hills I think I’ve ever driven down! But this really proves just how well built these cars are. You need to put a lot of trust into the car itself as off-roading is essentially what they are designed for – however having the comfort and settings for an everyday car too.
Both brands have such a rich heritage and understanding of how style and functionality combine to create a durable stylish and reliable range. The collection will be available from August 2014 and will be retailed through Barbour and Land Rover distribution channels worldwide.
