3 WATCHES TO DIVE FOR
THE BREMONT SUPERMARINE, IWC AQUATIMER AND THE AUDEMARS PIGUET ROYAL OAK OFFSHORE
Written by Menswear Style in Essentials on the 17th July 2014
Diving watches are useful for the obvious - diving. A normal watch with little or no water resistance will break once it goes into the water and this is no good for a diver.
Diving in the sea is no easy task and timing how long a diver has been under the water can be crucial to their safety. Here's our top 3 diving watches of 2014:
IWC Aquatimer Steel Automatic
The new addition to IWC Schaffhausen’s Aquatimer collection is the steel Automatic model (pictured above) which has been made smaller, with a 42mm diameter case, yet the water pressure resistance has been increased from 120 metres to 300 metres.
The size may have decreased but the resistance has increased, therefore a great piece for a diver’s wrist. The watch also features IWC’s new Safe Dive system including an external/internal rotating bezel that shows the diving time.
The internal bezel only turns anti-clockwise so the diving time isn’t accidentally increased which could be dangerous if a diver doesn’t know when to make a decompression stop.
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver
This Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver watch stands out with the bright yellow highlights on the internally rotating bezel and the minutes hand against the black carbon case and black rubber strap.
It features a self-winding automatic movement with a 60 hour power reserve. The black internally rotating bezel is used to measure 60 minutes of diving time, with the remaining 15 minutes highlighted in yellow.
It is also designed to withstand external pressure to 300 metres underwater and the carbon case is tightly screwed on so water cannot get inside.
Bremont Supermarine 2000
The Bremont Supermarine collection consists of diving watches inspired by the brand’s aviation principles and each piece features anti-shock and contains an anti-magnetic Faraday cage to protect the watch movement.
This S2000 model can withstand an amazing depth of 2000 metres and has a sapphire uni-directional bezel to time 60 minutes and both the bezel and the dial feature...
"SuperLumiNova coated hands and indexes so they can be read in poor lighting underwater"
The 45mm case also has an automatic helium release valve to stop damage to the watch when a diver is researching from build-up of gas inside the watch.
