BUYER BRIEFING WITH KATIE STEEL
5 SPRING/SUMMER 2014 ESSENTIALS FROM THE SENIOR MENSWEAR BUYER AT ASOS
Written by Menswear Style in Essentials on the 8th July 2014
I joined ASOS as a junior buyer in 2006, my responsibilities being to start up own-brand clothing on menswear. I took over buying tailoring in 2009 after having worked on both own-label and branded departments.
I love working on the tailoring as suits are so much more versatile than people think. I love that ASOS gives me and the rest of the team the freedom to push the boundries and offer some products that wouldn't normally be associated with tailoring.
"Suits don't just have to be worn for work or for a wedding. . ."
Bomber Jacket
Bombers made in smart cloths will be big for AW14. A versatile garment, it can be dressed up with smart trousers and a shirt or dressed down with jeans and a t-shirt. For a bolder look wear with our smart Joggers in matching fabric.
Joggers
These smart Joggers are super cool. Cropped in length with elasticated hems. They work well with trainers or smart shoes. Socks are a no-no though!
Jersey Blazer
Traditionally a casual fabric, this blazer made from Jersey bridges the gap between smart and casual making it perfect for lots of occasions. It's available in several colours too.
Poplin suit
This poplin suit is great for the summer as it's light-weight and made from cotton. Another great versitle garment that can be worn together or separately and dressed up or down.
Tux
I love this suit, it's a traditional style but worn in a young way. This white tuxedo jacket with black trousers has been teamed with a black shirt as a break from tradition and combined with a collar bar for an updated look. Perfect for a prom or a black tie event. For a more traditional look wear with a white shirt and bow tie.
