OUR TAKE ON THE SPRING/SUMMER 2015 MEN’S FASHION WEEK IN PARIS

To complete our coverage of the men’s fashion weeks which took us from London to Florence and Milan, we end our reportage in Paris. Here we discover a street style which is different to anywhere else, with effortless and minimal style made up of mostly black garments. We attended a great mix of events, runway shows and presentations for this short highlights feature.

Y/Project

Graphic tailoring woven into structural elegance sums up this labels collection. The SS15 range bridges technical expertise and emotional atmosphere with a straightforward silhouette moving between sport, street and minimal sophistication. The focus is on a regeneration of shapes and constructions, combining new cuts and volumes of the label’s signature pieces that deliver a contemporary urban look.

Julius

This felt like a very eerie catwalk show achieved via a dark room, a smoke machine and flashing lights for full effect. It was like Blade and the Matrix in the year 3014. Neuron and fetishism act as a catalyst to resonate with reality and imagination for a collection entirely in black and white colour-ways.

Fob Paris

It’s great to see such modern takes on a jewellery piece almost forgotten. For the fourth season of the Rehab Collection, Fob Paris keeps innovating to create an alternative to standard watchmaking, where the pocket watch [a symbol of the brand] transforms to express the richness of French fashion. The latest collaboration collection was shown at a small evening event with our favourite piece shown above

Paris Street Style

They say monochrome here is not a trend but more so a way of life. We certainly noticed how different street style is. It is much more laid-back and casual with mainly black oversized garments used for layering which seemed mad since the first few days were so hot.

Maison Martin Margiela

A great collection which was often very wearable, but upon closer look there was something more interesting. Many of the garments are studious yet playful, reinterpreted and then reworked e.g. trousers and jackets are cut into strips and then reassembled; shirts are divided and reunited by zips, University jackets are ripped apart, interchanged and sewn back together. Our favourite piece had to be the airy trench coats that were made from parachutes!

22/4 Hommes

The SS15 offering certainly seems to have an urban and casual style, perfectly portraying its hip-hop subculture inspiration. However, clean lines are evident and are combined with a loose and fluid tailored silhouette, which both complement each style resulting in a very interesting and appealing look.

Walter Van Beirendonck

Amazing prints in such vibrant colours brought smiles to our faces at this runway show. A military x urban style combination, fabulous blazers in the most intricate of patterns and plain sports waterproof coats were among our favourite items.

Mr Porter

Not only did Mr Porter team up with Uber for free travel around Paris [which we took advantage of], they threw a nice little intimate party in an amazing apartment which spanned the entire floor of a French style apartment block. Great people, food and drinks hosted by Editor John Brodie and Buying Director Toby Bateman.
