JAGUAR X OLIVER SWEENEY FOOTWEAR COLLABORATION
WE TEST THE NEW DRIVING SHOES RELEASED BY TWO ICONIC AND LEADING BRITISH BRANDS
Written by Menswear Style in New Collections on the 26th March 2014
Two much-loved leading luxury British designers have teamed up to develop a range of stylish footwear simply titled ‘Jaguar by Oliver Sweeney’.
Jaguar’s Advanced Design Director Julian Thomson joined Oliver Sweeney’s Cobbler-In-Chief, Tim Cooper at the shoemaker’s London studio to help develop the new range.
The first collection is a Jaguar F-TYPE-inspired collection of driving shoes which we tested ourselves during our recent F-TYPE Coupe tour of Spain.
We opted for the slick and understated navy Carbon Fibre driving shoe pictured above at our Hotel in Lleida. This exclusive material eliminates the possibility of ruining a luxury pair of suede shoes in a sudden downpour of rain (this has happened before).
So for that reason alone, (and for uniqueness) we’d recommend this material version of the collaboration collection.
From our point of view, they live up to their name as a true “Driving Shoe” since they’re very comfortable worn with or without socks when driving. We spent hours on the winding roads of Spain and they didn’t rub at all, even though they were straight from the box (yet to be broken in).
The range combines two distinct British product styles - each with a shared focus on quality, technical craftsmanship and attention to detail.
This unique release is available in a combination of carbon fibre print leathers and sandwich nubuck leathers, in red, navy and black - colours derived from the iconic interiors of the F-TYPE sports car itself.
Tim Cooper, Oliver Sweeney cobbler-in-chief, said: “For us, Jaguar encompasses perfection beyond just intuitively rewarding performance vehicles. Their sports cars deliver an instantly engaging driving experience, which our range of ‘Jaguar by Oliver Sweeney’ driver shoes perfectly complements. Designed using our Anatomical Last™ technology, the shoes are styled on a device that mimics as closely as possible the natural contours of the foot, and we have removed the shank to sustain extensive durability and flexibility. This ensures our shoes provide a real connection between the driver, the vehicle and the road.”
